WHAT TO EXPECT
Many
people feel uneasy about receiving their first massage. To make you feel more at
ease, here is how a typical session usually progresses from start to finish.
--First, the therapist will have you fill out two intake forms.
These forms are for personal information and health information. Tell the
therapist if there are any specific areas of tension or health concerns that may
alter the massage in any way. (recent surgeries, pregnancy, history of
dislocations, etc.)
--Then you will be asked to disrobe to your comfort zone while the
therapist is out of the room. Lay relaxed under a sheet until the therapist
returns. (It is common for people to disrobe completely; unless otherwise
instructed by your therapist.)
--During the massage session, the therapist will check-in to
make sure you are completely comfortable at all times. Feel free to ask any
questions you may have before the massage begins, but a completely relaxed
environment is essential for a good massage. Your comfort is of most
importance. Your body will remain draped by the sheet until it is time to work
on an area that needs to be exposed. Allow the therapist to move your limbs as
needed. Be as limp and relaxed as possible; please do not try to help move your
head, arms, and legs. Helping may counteract what the therapist is trying to
accomplish.
--It is very common for someone to fall asleep during a
massage. It is your body’s way of telling you it is releasing stress and
tension. So, close your eyes and allow yourself to relax.
